I'm posting a few random tunes for you to listen to, or not.
These are all songs that I've been listening to today; songs that appeal to me when it's quiet and cloudy as it is today. It's the day for a hurricane and this is the music for those of us sitting in the rainy shadows far from it.
The first song is almost a spiritual, a hymnal of sorts to a woman that just can't seem to FORGIVE and forget...poor Al Green. I always loved the combining of gospel stylings and sex. Where Ray did it before him..Al Green is still doing it today and this, just maybe, is my favorite song of his.
It builds slowly and, by the end, a little of the melancholy is shed and I think there's a little light there.
(You should buy a collection of his greatest hits, really. I'll post a link below)
The next song is a younger song. I have always been a fan of royksopp's sometimes cheesy, sometimes beautiful pop songs. THIS, to me, is what it would sound like if Bjork were to cover a queer pop song and then Richard X were to remix it. IF you can imagine that. If that sort of thing appeals to you then...download it and consider buying their new album: The Understanding (I'll post a link below).
Finally here are two songs that have been on repeat in my car--each from a band that I've been vomiting about to all of my friends.
The first is Huddle Formation by The Go! Team: Imagine, if you can--if JJ Fad were still around and decided to work on a joint album with...well..something like Sea Cake but with a dancy edge.. OH GOD...I can't describe it..AND if you can..you should describe it. HERE. in a comment.
(see link below to buy their album Thunder Lightning Strike)
The LAST, dear reader, song that I'm going to speak of is: Headlights Look Like Diamonds by, a personal favorite, the Arcade Fire. I don't know if this song was one of those songs that other people liked...I just stumbled onto it and I love it. Forgive the quality of this recording, it's shoddy, but I love this song. I think it's the woman who keeps coming in...I love her voice. ANYWAY we can talk about how very typical that is at another time. FOR NOW...see what you think of these songs and give me encouragement or I won't post songs...EVER...okay..I probably will post again..but still.. OH! and buy their albums! Both this album, their self-titled *or is it called "us kids now" I can't remember!*, and their already HUGELY famous Funeral album, are good albums and worth picking up...see the link below OR just FROOGLE it yourself!
